A World Away at Wategos Beach

If your idea of the perfect beach includes watching dolphins surfing on gentle lapping waves and picnics on golden sand then Wategos Beach is the beach for you.

Just north west of Cape Byron this sheltered and summer-time patrolled beach offers a haven to beach goers looking to escape the crowds of Byron’s more popular beaches.

Relax and Enjoy

Wategos picturesque scene is perfect for taking it easy and relaxing.

The protection of the headland with its famous lighthouse makes Wategos waters calm and ideal for getting on that perfect bikini and taking a swim. Just a little advise, strong currents can occur closer to the Cape so make sure you stay between the flags.

Need to find the perfect bikini for your body shape? We have you covered.

After your ocean dip, you can join the locals for a typical Aussie tradition and cook up a storm with free the BBQ’s just off the beach. Make sure you team your snags and steaks with a gorgeous summer salad.

The Best Place to be at Sunrise

If you checked out our previous post on beautiful Bryon Bay you will know that this area is the most eastern point of Australia. If you head down to Wategos for an early morning sunrise you will be one of the first people in the country to catch the suns rays that morning. Make sure you take your camera to capture the moment.

Feeling More Energetic?

For those that don't like to sit still for too long there is the Cape Byron Walking track. This 4km loop has it all with coastal views, grasslands and rainforest. The view from up at the Cape Byron Lighthouse offers the chance to glimpse migrating whales, dolphins and even the odd turtle. For more info check out this site.

You can also wander to Little Wategos. This is the most eastern beach in the whole of Australia and can only be reached on foot. Giving this small stretch of sand a secret and secluded vibe.
