What is a Kimono or Kaftan?
What is a kimono? What is a kaftan? Are they the same thing?
Traditionally a kimono was a Japanese full length robe worn with a belt. These days they have transformed in many different ways and have become a favorite wardrobe piece for many women across the globe.
A kimono is a versatile outerwear garment that is referred to by a barrage of different names including kimono, kaftan, duster, blouse, abaya, bisht, tunic, tunica, tunic blouse, beach cover up, shawl, cape and summer cardigan. It can be whatever you want it to be!
A modern iland co. kimono is a versatile summer and spring garment that will soon become a wardrobe staple. Our modern take on the kimono comes in 3 different lengths and can be worn open OR button closed, tied with your favorite belt and synched at the waist.
How to Style a Kimono
Kimono's are such versatile, effortless pieces and the styling options are many.
A kimono can be worn on it's own over a bikini as a swimsuit cover up. Pair with some long beads and strappy sandals for added beach glamour.
Kimono's look great over denim jeans and cut off shorts with a block coloured top underneath (but make sure the kimono's sleeves are longer than the top you wear underneath).
A printed silk or chiffon kimono looks beautiful over a little black dress to add a pop of colour to an evening outfit or to provide a little warmth.
